About Us

When we moved to the White Mountains of New Hampshire in 1970, the magic of the holiday season captivated us. These enchanting winters of sparkling snow and New England traditions were the inspiration for our first catalog. My husband and I ran the entire business from the loft of our barn, doing all of the item selection, catalog design, and order taking ourselves. People warmly welcomed those early catalogs and appreciated our desire to offer beautiful holiday merchandise and personal service.
Today, 40 years later, customers who once wore our merchandise are now buying our clothing for their little ones. The Wooden Soldier has grown considerably. Even though our company is larger, we remain dedicated to the principles upon which our business was founded. People still value quality, personal service, and unique merchandise, and we still value the opportunity to provide these for our customers.
When our two daughters Kirstin and Aubrey were born, we expanded the catalog to include a selection of coordinating children's and family apparel. We searched for heirloom quality clothing that would make children feel and look special, because we knew that is what we wanted for our daughters.
